Calarco, Elliott are Dick Howser Trophy National Players of the Month

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has named its Dick Howser Trophy Players of the Month for February presented by The Game Headwear, tabbing Maryland catcher/infielder Alex Calarco its National Hitter of the Month and Ole Miss left-handed starter Hunter Elliott its National Pitcher of the Month.

A senior out of Wilmette, Illinois, Calarco had a prolific month at the plate, blasting seven home runs in just 33 at-bats. He slugged two doubles and drove in 22 runs, owning a 1.121 slugging and a .500 on-base percentage. His first six homers of the year came in the first seven games of 2025 and on Feb. 24 was named USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Player of the Week. On the year, Calarco is hitting .442 (23-for-52) with 18 runs, four doubles, eight homers and 29 RBI, owning a 7-11 walk-strikeout ratio. The Terps are 7-5 on the year and have won four of their last five games. 

Elliott, a redshirt junior from Tupelo, Mississippi, has made a decorated return to the mound for the Rebels after missing nearly two full seasons due to injury. A former Freshman All-American, Elliott has made three starts to open 2025, winning all three over 16 innings. He has not allowed a run, striking out 20 and holding opponents to just six hits, including five singles and a double. For his career, Elliott has a 9-4 record and a 2.74 ERA in 25 games and 17 starts, tossing 102 innings, allowing just 68 hits and 48 walks, striking out 134 with opponents hitting .192. The Rebels are 11-1 and have won 10 straight. 

This marks the 10th consecutive year that the NCBWA has honored a national hitter and national pitcher of the month. Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball.
