2019-20 Oscar Robertson Trophy Winner: Obi Toppin, Dayton
Dayton forward Obi Toppin has been named the winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy as the National Player of the Year in voting by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. Toppin, a 6-9 sophomore from Brooklyn, N.Y., is Dayton's first Oscar Robertson Trophy winner, and only the third overall from the Atlantic 10 Conference (Jameer Nelson of St. Joseph's in 2003-04 and David West of Xavier in 2002-03). He is a USBWA All-America first team selection as Dayton's first All-American since Jim Paxson in the 1978-79 season. Toppin won the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year honor after averaging 20.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He shot 64.4 percent in league play and his 63.3-percent shooting for the season was the fifth-best mark nationally.

2018-19 Oscar Robertson Trophy Winner: Zion Williamson, Duke
Duke freshman forward Zion Williamson has been named the winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy as the National Player of the Year in voting by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. Williamson, a 6-7 forward from Spartanburg, S.C., was the nation's only player to average at least 20 points and shoot at least 65 percent from the field. He was selected to the first team of the USBWA's All-America Team, and also won the USBWA's Wayman Tisdale Award as the National Freshman Player of the Year. He was selected over three other finalists – teammate RJ Barrett of Duke, Ja Morant of Murray State and Grant Williams of Tennessee.

2017-18 Oscar Robertson Trophy Winner: Jalen Brunson, Villanova
Villanova junior guard Jalen Brunson has been named the winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy as the National Player of the Year in voting by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. The trophy's namesake, "The Big O," was on hand at the Alamodome, site of this weekend's Final Four, to announce Brunson as the winner. The formal presentation of the award will take place at the College Basketball Awards dinner April 9 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

2016-17 Oscar Robertson Trophy Winner: Frank Mason III, Kansas
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected Kansas senior guard Frank Mason III as the winner of the 2016-17 Oscar Robertson Trophy, annually presented to the National Player of the Year. A consensus first-team All-America selection and the USBWA's District VI Player of the Year, Mason is the first Kansas player in school history to receive national player of the year honors from the USBWA since the award was first presented to Robertson in the 1958-59 season. Mason won the player of the year balloting in eight of the USBWA's nine districts.

2015-16 Oscar Robertson Trophy Winner: Buddy Hield, Oklahoma
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected Oklahoma senior guard Buddy Hield as the winner of the 2015-16 Oscar Robertson Trophy, annually presented to the National Player of the Year. Affectionately known as "Buddy Buckets," the USBWA All-American and District VI Player of the Year, Hield was chosen as the national player of the year based on regular-season performance.

2014-15 Oscar Robertson Trophy Winner: Frank Kaminsky, Wisconsin
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected Wisconsin senior forward Frank Kaminsky as the winner of the 2014-15 Oscar Robertson Trophy, annually presented to the National Player of the Year. The 7-0, 242-pounder from Lisle, Ill., becomes the first USBWA national player of the year from Wisconsin and the third from a Big Ten Conference school since the 2009-10 season. Michigan's Trey Burke won the honor two seasons ago and Ohio State's Evan Turner was the player of the year in the 2009-10 season. Four other Big Ten players have been named the USBWA National Player of the Year (Purdue's Glenn Robinson in 1993-94, Indiana's Calbert Cheaney in 1992-93, Michigan's Cazzie Russell in 1965-66 and Ohio State's Jerry Lucas in both the 1969-61 and 1961-62 seasons).

2013-14 Oscar Robertson Trophy Winner: Doug McDermott, Creighton
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected Creighton senior forward Doug McDermott as the winner of the 2013-14 Oscar Robertson Trophy, annually presented to the National Player of the Year. The 6-8, 225-pounder from Ames Iowa, becomes the first USBWA national player of the year from Creighton and just the third from a Big East Conference school. Chris Mullin and Walter Berry, both from St. John's, won back-to-back player of the year awards in 1985-86. The 2013-14 season marked Creighton's first season in the Big East.

2012-13 Oscar Robertson Trophy Winner: Trey Burke, Michigan
The USBWA has selected Michigan sophomore guard Trey Burke as the winner of the 2012-13 Oscar Robertson Trophy presented by Aflac, annually presented to the National Player of the Year. The 6-0, 190-pounder from Columbus, Ohio, becomes the second USBWA national player of the year from Michigan and the seventh from a Big Ten Conference school. Cazzie Russell was the 1966 USBWA National Player of the Year. Burke is just the ninth sophomore to win the award, but the first second-year guard to be so honored. A first-team USBWA All-American and the USBWA District V Player of the Year, Burke was chosen as the national player of the year from a field of 14 finalists, based on regular-season performance.

About Oscar Robertson: Born Nov. 24, 1938, in Charlotte, Tenn., and raised in Indianapolis, Oscar Robertson learned to play basketball on the dirt courts of the inner city and refined his game through endless hours of individual practice.

He first attracted national attention at Crispus Attucks High School, where he led his team to a 45-game winning streak, two consecutive Indiana state championships and a national championship, and was named "Mr. Basketball" for the state of Indiana. Attucks was the first African-American school and the first Indianapolis school to win the Indiana state crown.

At the University of Cincinnati, where he became known as "The Big O," he led the Bearcats to the Final Four in 1959 and '60. He was a three-time first team All-American, and the first player to lead the NCAA in scoring three straight years or to win National College Player of the Year honors three times.

Following graduation in 1960 with a B.S. degree in Business, he co-captained the undefeated 1960 U.S. Olympic gold medalist team, often considered the greatest basketball team ever assembled.

During his 14-year NBA career – ten with the Cincinnati Royals and four with the Milwaukee Bucks – Robertson led his teams to 10 playoff appearances, including an NBA championship with the Bucks in 1971. He was the NBA's Rookie of the Year in 1961 and Most Valuable Player in 1964. He was a 12-time NBA All-Star and was voted Most Valuable Player in three All-Star games. In 1961-62, he became the only player in NBA history ever to average a "triple double" for an entire season. He led the league in free-throw percentage twice and assists six times.

His career record of 9,887 assists stood for 17 years and his 26,710 points and 25.7 points per game average rank him seventh on the list of all-time NBA scorers.

In 1998, the U.S. Basketball Writers renamed its annual player of the year award the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
