Mentorship Program

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association, as part of its annual student mentoring program for the 2024-25 season, will appoint a student to become a non-voting member of its men’s board and another student to occupy a similar position on its women’s board.

To apply to the USBWA Mentorship Program, you can apply here or click on the banner above.

The deadline is Friday, Dec. 13. If you have any questions about the program or issues with the application process, contact Executive Director Malcolm Moran at malcolm@usbwa.com.

For a fourth season, the mentorship program will match selected students with USBWA members who will critique written work, support development of reporting skills and offer suggestions on how to approach and navigate the job market.

The board positions are designed to encourage students, future USBWA leaders, to become involved with the organization, take part in board discussions, and learn how the industry works.

Applicants should be full-time undergraduate students from two-year or four-year institutions or graduate students during the Spring 2025 semester with a demonstrated interest in becoming a sports journalist.

As a reminder, the application deadline is Dec. 13.

Members, if you wish to volunteer for the program, please apply here.
